Cryptococcus Antigen, Cerebrospinal Fluid
Use
Aid in establishing the presence of Cryptococcus neoformans or Cryptococcus gattii infection.
Special Instructions
Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) specimens found to be antigen-positive will have a fungus culture performed, following CAP regulations, if not requested separately. The test also includes a reflex to titer on positive results and reflex to culture when criteria are met.
Limitations
Endpoint titers obtained from different cryptococcal antigen testing methods may not correlate, and as such, it is recommended that patients with positive cryptococcal antigen results are monitored consistently using the same assay method.
