Estrone Sulfate
Use
Estrone sulfate is a major estrogen in circulation, especially in postmenopausal women. It serves as a reservoir that can be converted into estradiol and estrone, making it significant in evaluating estrogen status. This test is useful in assessing estrogen levels in various conditions such as menopause and assessing sexual maturity. It may also be used to monitor treatment involving estrogen-related therapies.
Special Instructions
Serum must be separated from cells within 45 minutes of venipuncture and sent in a plastic transport tube. The patient's specimen should be handled correctly to avoid stability issues and ensure accurate results.
Limitations
This test is not suitable for assessing estrone sulfate levels in whole blood, urine, or cerebrospinal fluid. Samples beyond the specified stability timeframes may yield unreliable results. Factors such as improper handling and storage conditions could potentially impact the results, leading to inaccurate estrogen level assessments.
