Glomerulonephritis (GNP) Profile (RDL)
Use
ANA are commonly present in a variety of autoimmune diseases. ANA frequency also increases with age in apparently healthy people. ANA patterns on HEp-2 slides provide general clues about particles (chromatin, nucleosomes, and spliceosomes).
Special Instructions
ANA performed if ANCA positive to rule out false positive ANCA due to presence of ANA. Separate serum from cells within one hour of collection and transfer to a plastic transport tube before shipping. Submit separate frozen specimens for each test requested to avoid delays.
Limitations
The performance characteristics of this test have not been cleared or approved by the Food and Drug Administration. The ANA test may show positive results in healthy persons, especially as age increases. Turnaround time may vary depending on additional confirmatory or reflex tests. Results may be influenced by the stability of the specimen, so following collection and storage instructions is critical.
