Helper/Suppressor and Natural Killer Cell Profile
Use
Monitor patients helper/suppressor T-cell status; assess other changes in T-cell surface markers that may indicate changes in immune status
Special Instructions
Ensure specimen is collected to fill tube(s) to capacity using lavender-top (EDTA) and yellow-top (ACD-A or ACD-B) tubes. Invert tubes 8 to 10 times immediately after collection to preserve cellular viability and ensure the specimen arrives in the laboratory within 48 hours of collection. The date and time of venipuncture must be indicated on both the tube and the test request form.
Limitations
The test must be conducted within the specified stability periods to ensure accurate results. Room temperature stability for yellow-top (ACD-A) or (ACD-B) tube is 2 days, while for lavender-top (EDTA) tube it is 1 day. The specimen is unstable if refrigerated or frozen. Factors such as hemolysis, clotting, or contamination can cause sample rejection. Additionally, proper collection and handling are crucial to maintain specimen integrity.
