Legionella pneumophila, DFA
Also known as: Legionella Antigen, FA Smear for Legionella pneumophila
Use
Determine the presence of Legionella pneumophila organisms in direct FA smear of specimen, providing rapid diagnosis
Special Instructions
Avoid contamination with normal flora from skin or other body surfaces. Store and transport the specimen at 2°C to 8°C within 24 hours of collection to ensure accuracy of test results.
Limitations
This DFA test only detects Legionella pneumophila and does not include other Legionella species. False-positive reactions have been observed in cases of pleuropulmonary tularemia and Campylobacter infection. Specimens received in conditions such as swabbing, inappropriate transport devices, or prolonged delays might be rejected.
