Products of Conception (POC) Paraffin-embedded, Aneuploid Evaluation
Also known as: Aneuploid Fluorescence in situ Hybridization POC FISH Genetics
Use
Rapid identification of common aneuploidies (specific for X, Y, 13, 16, 18, 21, 22) as the cause of miscarriage.
Special Instructions
When submitting a test request, it is important to indicate the pertinent clinical diagnosis, any previous cytogenetics studies, and the gestation age. Additional charges may apply for formalin positive tissue samples that require embedding and pathology. The specified test number is utilized for tracking FISH specimens to the testing laboratory. Bill codes will be added post-completion of testing based on the processes performed in the laboratory. Contact Customer Service for a list of applicable test codes.
Limitations
This test will not detect molecular mutations that fall below the resolution capabilities of FISH. Additionally, it will not identify regions that are not targeted by the FISH probes included in this panel. As the test is not cleared or approved by the FDA, results need to be evaluated in conjunction with clinical findings and other laboratory data.

Tissue (Fixed (Non-FFPE))
Volume
4x4x4 mm formalin fixed fetal tissue, one paraffin block or nine cut paraffin slides (cut at 4 to 5 microns)
Minimum Volume
2x2x2 mm formalin-fixed fetal tissue, one paraffin block or five cut paraffin slides (cut at 4 to 5 microns)
Container
Formalin-fixed fetal tissue samples: Sterile container. Paraffin blocks: Paraffin block transport pouch. Paraffin slides: Plastic slide container.
Collection Instructions
Aseptically obtain a small piece of tissue with subepidermal layers. Best results are obtained from placental villi. Fix in 10% neutral-buffered formalin or formaldehyde then paraffin-embed or ship to the laboratory in a sterile container at room temperature. Do not overheat or freeze.
Storage Instructions
Maintain specimen at room temperature. Do not freeze.
Causes for Rejection
Stained paraffin blocks or slides; decalcified blocks or slides; broken slides; absence of fetal tissue; low volume or quantity not sufficient for analysis
