Thyroglobulin Antibody
Also known as: Antithyroglobulin Antibody
Use
This test is used to detect and confirm autoimmune thyroiditis and Hashimoto thyroiditis.
Special Instructions
This test may show interference if the sample is collected from an individual consuming high doses of biotin. Patients must stop biotin 72 hours before sample collection. It is essential to query patients about biotin supplementation.
Limitations
The interpretation of thyroglobulin antibody results should consider the patient's clinical presentation, including symptoms, clinical history, data from additional tests, and other relevant information. Low levels of TgAb may not always be pathogenic or diagnostic. TgAb can interfere with thyroglobulin measurements, causing falsely low or undetectable values, necessitating specific measurement techniques.
