Chili Pepper (f279) IgE
Also known as: ImmunoCAP®
Use
Measures immunoglobulin E (IgE) antibodies specific to chili pepper (Capsicum annuum, allergen code f279) in serum, to assess potential allergic sensitization. Useful in evaluating allergic symptoms after ingestion or inhalation of chili pepper. Allergic reactions to Capsicum species are rare, but cross‑reactivity among related species (e.g., sweet pepper, paprika, jalapeno) is expected.
Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
Interpret IgE levels in the context of clinical history. Sensitization (elevated IgE) does not confirm allergy severity or predict anaphylaxis. Results between 0.10 and 0.35 kU/L may be of uncertain significance. Negative results do not rule out risk of reaction. Quantitative IgE results indicate sensitization, not clinical reactivity.
