Performing Lab
Cysticercus Antibody (IgG), ELISA, CSF with Reflex to Western Blot
Clinical Use
Order TestUse
Detection of IgG antibodies against Taenia solium larval forms (cysticerci) in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF), aiding in diagnosis of neurocysticercosis, especially when ELISA is positive and confirmed by reflex Western Blot.
Special Instructions
Reflex to Western Blot is performed if ELISA is positive, at additional charge.
Limitations
Cross‑reactivity with other parasitic infections like echinococcosis may occur; low CSF antibody levels, passive transfer from blood, or blood contamination may complicate interpretation.
