Fungitell® (1,3)-Beta-D-Glucan
Use
The Fungitell® assay is a rapid screening in vitro diagnostic test for (1→3)-β-D‑Glucan in serum, used as an aid in the presumptive diagnosis of invasive fungal infections (e.g., Candida, Aspergillus, Pneumocystis) in at‑risk patients; elevated levels support the presence of invasive fungal infection, though results should be interpreted alongside other clinical and laboratory findings. Special Instructions
Not provided.
Limitations
False‑positive results may occur in patients recently exposed to hemodialysis, certain fractionated blood products (e.g., albumin, IVIG), or glucan‑containing gauze; the assay does not detect fungi that produce very low or no (1→3)‑β‑D‑glucan such as Cryptococcus, Mucorales (e.g., Mucor, Absidia, Rhizopus), and the yeast phase of Blastomyces dermatitidis. Serial testing is recommended to improve diagnostic accuracy. ([mayocliniclabs.com](https://www.mayocliniclabs.com/test-catalog/Overview/SFUNG?utm_source=openai))
