IA‑2 Antibody
Also known as: Islet Cell Antigen 512 Antibodies, Tyrosine Phosphatase, Insulinoma-associated Protein 2, ICA 512 Antibody
Use
An autoantibody test targeting insulinoma‑associated antigen 2 (IA‑2), one of the key autoantibodies measured in type 1 diabetes (T1D). It is used to help diagnose type 1 diabetes, distinguish it from type 2 diabetes, assess risk in presymptomatic individuals, and determine eligibility for therapies or clinical trials aimed at delaying clinical diabetes onset.
Special Instructions
This assay may be ordered individually or as part of the Diabetes Type 1 Autoantibody Panel (panel TC 13621), which includes GAD‑65, Insulin, IA‑2, and ZnT8 antibodies.
Limitations
Interpretation should be done in clinical context; autoantibody presence may precede clinical disease and may not alone confirm diagnosis. Results may vary depending on timing relative to disease onset, and negative results do not exclude future development of autoimmunity.
