Zinc Transporter 8 (ZnT8) Antibody
Use
The ZnT8 antibody test is used to assist in the diagnosis of type 1 diabetes mellitus. It may be ordered alone or in parallel with other autoantibody tests such as GAD‑65, IA‑2, and insulin autoantibody to improve sensitivity in detecting autoimmune diabetes. It is particularly useful for individuals with diabetes of unclear etiology, such as young persons with atypical presentation, ketosis‑prone or non‑ketotic diabetes, suspected MODY, gestational diabetes to gauge future type 1 risk, or in high‑risk individuals such as first‑degree relatives of type 1 diabetics in research contexts.
Special Instructions
“Diabetes Type 1 Autoantibody Panel” (test code 13621) includes four components—GAD‑65 Ab (34878), Insulin Ab (36178), IA‑2 Ab (37933), and ZnT8 Ab (93022)—which may be ordered separately.
