Allergen, Food, Pecan
Also known as: PECAN
Use
This test measures the concentration of allergen-specific IgE antibodies to pecan (Carya illinoensis) in the serum. It is used for the diagnosis of allergic reactions to pecans and for the management of patients with suspected food allergies. The test results help in assessing the risk of allergic reactions, guiding dietary recommendations, and monitoring sensitization changes over time.
Special Instructions
Multiple patient encounters should be avoided during the test collection process. When placing orders for multiple allergens, refer to the "Allergen Specimen Collection Instructions" available at www.aruplab.com/testing/resources/specimen.
Limitations
Results between 0.10-0.34 kU/L are of undetermined clinical relevance and intended for specialist use. The concentrations of allergen-specific IgE do not necessarily correlate with the severity of clinical symptoms or results of skin testing. A negative result does not rule out clinical allergy or anaphylaxis. It is essential to correlate laboratory results with the patient's clinical history and in vivo reactivity to specific allergens.
