Use
Used as a technical stain-and-return immunohistochemical assay to detect CD56 (NCAM) expression in tissue or cell specimens, aiding in identification of neural/neuroendocrine lineage or NK cells in histopathologic evaluation.
Special Instructions
Submit via electronic request or using ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) if electronic ordering is unavailable. This is a stain-and-return (technical) service only. New York State Department of Health approved.
Limitations
Specimens must be formalin-fixed, paraffin-embedded tissue or cell blocks; inadequate or non-representative tissue, depleted specimens, or overheated/frozen slides/blocks are unacceptable. Precut slides should not be oven baked.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen (cells must be prepared into a cellblock). Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3‑ to 5‑micron thick sections), positively charged slides in a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808). Minimum 2 slides. If sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
Storage Instructions
Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat; room temperature or refrigerated; ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
Depleted specimens; specimens submitted with non‑representative tissue type.
