Cytokeratin 8,18 Low Molecular Weight (CAM 5.2) by Immunohistochemistry
Also known as: CAM5.2 IHC
Use
The Cytokeratin 8,18 Low Molecular Weight (CAM 5.2) by Immunohistochemistry test is used in pathology laboratories to stain tissue samples for the presence of cytokeratin proteins, which are typically expressed in epithelial tissues. This aids in distinguishing epithelial cell types from other tissues in tumor samples, helping in the classification of cancers and other diagnostic assessments.
Special Instructions
Submit electronic requests for the test. If you do not have electronic ordering capability, use an ARUP Immunohistochemistry Stain Form (#32978) with an ARUP client number. Ensure proper specimen collection and handling to avoid submitting depleted or non-representative specimens.
Limitations
The test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service, and does not provide interpretive diagnostic results. The accuracy of the test depends on proper specimen collection, fixation, and handling. Results are influenced by the quality and preservation of the tissue, and false negatives may occur if these conditions are not met.
