F-Actin (Smooth Muscle) Antibody, IgA
Also known as: ACTIN IGA
Use
The presence of IgA antibodies against F-Actin in patients having positive serologic markers for celiac disease, such as antiendomysial, anti-transglutaminase, and/or anti-gliadin peptide IgA, indicates the presence of intestinal villus atrophy. Positive results should be confirmed with biopsy.
Special Instructions
Do not use to screen for celiac disease. This test may be used to estimate the severity of intestinal villous atrophy in confirmed celiac disease.
Limitations
The accuracy of the F-Actin (Smooth Muscle) Antibody, IgA test may be affected by plasma, or contaminated, severely hemolyzed, icteric, or lipemic specimens. Results should be interpreted in conjunction with other clinical findings and biopsy results.
