Hepatitis Be Virus Antibody
Also known as: HBEAB
Use
Hepatitis Be Virus Antibody testing is used to monitor HBV therapy. It should be ordered along with HBV DNA, HBV surface antigen, HBV surface antibody, and HBe antigen. The presence of anti-HBe typically indicates resolution of hepatitis B infection, although it can be detected in a small proportion of chronic HBV infections. This antibody can be indicative of recent or resolved infection and provides important clinical information in conjunction with other hepatitis B markers.
Special Instructions
This test is New York state approved. It's important to note that this assay should not be used for blood donor screening, associated reentry protocols, or for screening human cells, tissues, and cellular- and tissue-based products (HCT/P).
Limitations
The assay should not be utilized for blood donor screening, reentry protocols, or screening of human cells, tissues, and cellular- and tissue-based products (HCT/P). Grossly hemolyzed, icteric, lipemic, or particulate-containing specimens may lead to test rejection. Repeated freeze/thaw cycles should be avoided to ensure specimen integrity. The presence of anti-HBe is reactive and consistent with recent or remote hepatitis B infection. However, this marker alone cannot differentiate active infection from resolved infection without additional HBV markers.
