Oncology FISH Analysis - Multiple Myeloma FISH Panel
Use
Oncology FISH Analysis for Multiple Myeloma is a critical diagnostic tool that identifies chromosomal abnormalities linked to multiple myeloma, providing insights into the disease's prognosis and treatment response. This assay detects abnormalities such as trisomy 9, del(13q14.3), and t(14;?), among others, allowing clinicians to tailor treatment approaches and anticipate potential disease progression. It is essential that results are interpreted alongside clinical and pathological data, as they play a pivotal role in confirming diagnoses and guiding management strategies for patients. Such insights are vital for optimizing therapeutic decisions and monitoring disease progression.
Special Instructions
Blood samples and bone marrow must be drawn into Sodium Heparin tubes for optimal results. Plasma cell enrichment is performed unless otherwise specified. Samples should reach the laboratory within 72 hours for valid results. Accompanying flow cytometry and pathology reports are recommended to provide context for the sample. If sufficient enrichment is not obtained, the p53 probe will be prioritized unless directed otherwise. Careful handling and prompt submission are critical to ensure accurate diagnostic workup and interpretation of results.
Limitations
This FISH assay is specifically designed to assess certain chromosomal loci and does not evaluate any additional variations outside of its defined scope. It is essential to understand that partner chromosomes associated with aberrations are not identified by this test. Consequently, detailed knowledge of the patient's clinical context and history is necessary to interpret the test results accurately. The assay can detect aneuploidy using probes for cen 7, cen 9, and SNRPN; deletions using probes for CDKN2C, CKS1B, RB1, and p53; and rearrangements using IgH probes.
