Allergen Profile, Food−Fruit
Use
The Allergen Profile, Food−Fruit test detects the presence of specific IgE antibodies to a panel of common fruit allergens. This test aids in the diagnosis of fruit-specific allergies and is useful for patients with suspected food allergies who exhibit allergic symptoms upon exposure to certain fruits. Identifying specific fruit allergies can help manage and prevent allergic reactions by informing dietary modifications and treatment plans.
Special Instructions
This test utilizes the Thermo Fisher ImmunoCAP® technology, ensuring accurate and reliable results. Serum must be collected in a red-top tube or gel-barrier tube. It is important to avoid sample contamination or gross hemolysis, as these are causes for sample rejection. Recently administered isotopes can also interfere with the test results, so clear labeling and appropriate storage at room temperature are essential.
Limitations
The test is specific for the IgE antibodies against the fruits included in the panel: apple, banana, grape, peach, and pear. It does not detect other food or environmental allergens. A negative test result does not rule out allergies to other fruits or substances not included in the panel. Cross-reactivity with other allergens not tested may occur. Additionally, low levels of IgE may not be clinically significant and should be interpreted in the context of clinical presentation.
