Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Profile With Myelin Basic Protein, Cerebrospinal Fluid
Also known as: MS Profile
Use
Adjunct in aiding clinical diagnosis of multiple sclerosis
Special Instructions
This test requires the simultaneous collection of serum and CSF, ensuring samples are not contaminated with blood. Once collected, the CSF must be centrifuged at 1500xg for 20 minutes to separate the supernatant. Both specimens are to be stored in plastic transport tubes at room temperature, refrigerated, or frozen without significant impact for up to 14 days.
Limitations
Results are intended only for research as specified by the assay's manufacturer. The performance characteristics of these tests have not been fully established, and results should be confirmed by another medically validated method. Approximately 2-3% of clinically confirmed MS patients may show minimal oligoclonal bands in the CSF initially; bands might become detectable as the disease progresses.
