Used in clinical evaluation often for nephrotic syndrome (elevated α2‑macroglobulin:albumin ratio indicative of postrenal hematuria), as well as markers in liver cirrhosis and diabetes where levels are elevated, and occasionally in assessing membrane permeability in urine or liver fibrosis contexts.
