Cardiolipin Antibody (IgA)
Also known as: Phospholipid Antibody, IgA, Anti-Cardiolipin IgA
Use
This test detects IgA isotype anticardiolipin antibodies, which may be implicated in antiphospholipid syndrome (APS), particularly when other isotypes are negative. Though IgA is not formally included in APS diagnostic criteria, it may be elevated in certain populations, such as African American patients with systemic lupus erythematosus, and can support APS evaluation in concert with clinical findings and other laboratory tests. Limitations
The IgA isotype is not part of standard APS classification criteria and its clinical relevance remains under investigation. Persistence of antibody positivity should be confirmed at least 12 weeks after an initial positive result to support APS diagnosis. IgA results should be interpreted alongside clinical context and other serologic tests.
