Cryoglobulin Screen with Reflex to Cryoglobulin Panel
Use
This test is an initial qualitative screen for the presence of cryoglobulins in serum. If cryoglobulins are detected, the reflex panel—including Cryocrit immunofixation, immunodiffusion, and rheumatoid factor—is performed to semi‑quantitate and further characterize the cryoglobulin content, aiding in the diagnosis of cryoglobulinemia, which may be associated with autoimmune disease, infections, or hematologic disorders.
Special Instructions
Specimen must be collected and handled warm. Allow blood to clot for one hour at 37 °C, then centrifuge promptly (not refrigerated), decant serum into a screw‑cap vial; transport at room temperature. Overnight fasting is required.
Limitations
If the sample is not kept at 37 °C during clotting, cryoglobulins may precipitate within the clot and be lost on centrifugation, potentially yielding a false negative result.
