Filaria Antibody (IgG4)
Also known as: Filariasis
Use
This assay detects IgG4 subclass antibodies to filarial parasites, including Dirofilaria immitis, Wuchereria bancrofti, Brugia malayi, and Onchocerca volvulus. Chronic filarial infections manifesting as elephantiasis may not show a significant IgG4 response and cannot be ruled out by this test. Cross-reactivity may occur with antibodies to other nematodes, particularly Strongyloides.
Special Instructions
Specimen collected Wednesday; send to Mayo Medical Laboratories via Quest; set-up Wednesday.
Limitations
Chronic elephantiasis may not result in significant IgG4 antibody response, so infection cannot be ruled out. Cross-reactivity with antibodies to other nematodes (e.g., Strongyloides) may occur. Not FDA cleared or approved; developed and validated under CLIA.
