SOX-10 By Immunohistochemistry (DAB Detection)
Also known as: SOX10 IHC
Use
The SOX-10 by Immunohistochemistry (DAB Detection) test is used to detect the presence of the SOX-10 protein in tissue samples. This test is specifically employed in the immunohistochemical staining process to aid in the diagnosis of certain types of tumors, particularly those of neural crest origin, such as melanoma and schwannoma. Using an anti-SOX-10 antibody, this test allows pathologists to examine the expression pattern of the SOX-10 protein in cells and can provide valuable information in the diagnosis and differentiation of these tumor types.
Special Instructions
This test is performed as a stain and return (technical) service only. Proper specimen handling and preparation are crucial to ensure the accuracy of results. It is recommended to use a tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808) for optimal specimen protection during transport. The test requires formalin-fixed and paraffin-embedded tissue samples, and it is essential to avoid overheating the specimens.
Limitations
The SOX-10 by Immunohistochemistry test is a laboratory-developed test and has not been cleared or approved by the FDA. It is not intended to be the sole evidence for a diagnosis of any disease and should be used in conjunction with other diagnostic tools and clinical assessments. Potential limitations include false negatives or positives due to inadequate specimen integrity or improper handling. Results interpretation must consider these factors, and the quality of the specimen significantly affects the accuracy of the test outcomes.
