Use
This test is a histochemical mucin stain (mucicarmine) intended to detect mucin in tissue specimens, helpful in identifying mucin-producing cells and structures such as adenocarcinomas and fungal capsules. It is a stain-and-return (technical) service performed and reported by ARUP Anatomic Pathology.
Special Instructions
Ordering via electronic request is recommended; if not available, submit via ARUP Anatomic Pathology Test Request Form #32960 with ARUP client number. Use tissue transport kit (ARUP supply #47808) for slides/blocks and protect from excessive heat. This is a stain and return (technical) service only.
Limitations
Unacceptable conditions include nonrepresentative tissue type or depleted specimens. Frozen specimens are unacceptable. Slides or blocks must be properly fixed, paraffin embedded, and not exposed to excessive heat.
