Deamidated Gliadin Antibodies, IgG
Also known as: DGP, IgG
Use
Detection of gliadin antibodies aids in the diagnosis and monitoring of certain gluten-sensitive enteropathies, such as celiac disease and dermatitis herpetiformis.
Special Instructions
A negative IgA result in an untreated patient does not rule out gluten-sensitive enteropathies, especially when associated with IgG gliadin antibodies. It is important to consider selective IgA deficiency, a relatively frequent finding in celiac disease, which can affect the accuracy of antibody tests.
Limitations
False-positives are possible as other gastrointestinal disorders such as Crohn's disease, food protein intolerance, and post-infection malabsorption are known to induce circulating antigliadin antibody. Therefore, results should be interpreted in the context of clinical symptoms and other diagnostic tests.
