Immune Cell Function Assay (ImmuKnow®)
Use
The ImmuKnow® Immune Cell Function Assay assesses cell‑mediated immunity by measuring ATP production from CD4+ T‑cells following stimulation, and is used particularly in immunosuppressed populations—such as solid‑organ transplant recipients—to aid in evaluating the degree of immune suppression and risk for infection or rejection. Results should be interpreted alongside clinical presentation and history. ([kuhlab.testcatalog.org](https://kuhlab.testcatalog.org/show/IKNOW?utm_source=openai))
Special Instructions
Specimen must be whole blood collected in a sodium heparin (green‑top) tube. The sample must be sent ambient at room temperature in the original tube and received by the lab within 30 hours; refrigerating or freezing is unacceptable. Collection should be timed to ensure receipt within the stability window (e.g., not after Friday afternoon or weekends). The assay is performed Monday through Saturday. Testing is typically arranged with the performing reference laboratory (Viracor‑Eurofins). ([kuhlab.testcatalog.org](https://kuhlab.testcatalog.org/show/IKNOW?utm_source=openai))
Limitations
Specimens received beyond the 30‑hour stability window, or those that are refrigerated, frozen, clotted, or transferred to other tubes, will be rejected. The assay is qualitative and does not quantify the level of immunosuppression. Results must be correlated with clinical context and other indicators. This test cannot be added onto other specimens.
