Mitogen‑induced Lymphocyte Proliferation Panel (PHA, Con A, PWM)
Also known as: Antigen-induced Cell Proliferation, Candida, mitogen/antigen-induced, Tetanus Toxoid, mitogen/antigen-induced
Use
This test evaluates the capacity of a patient’s T and B lymphocytes to respond to mitogenic stimulation using three mitogens: phytohemagglutinin (PHA) and concanavalin A (Con A), which preferentially stimulate T-cell proliferation, and pokeweed mitogen (PWM), which preferentially stimulates B-cell proliferation. It is used to assess immune function and responsiveness in clinical settings where immune competence is being evaluated.
