Calponin by Immunohistochemistry

Use
Calponin is a smooth muscle–specific cytoskeletal protein useful in identifying smooth muscle tumors and myoepithelial cells, such as demonstrating the presence or absence of myoepithelium in breast lesions. It is performed as a stain-and-return (technical) immunohistochemistry service.
Special Instructions

Limitations
This test is performed as a stain-and-return (technical) service only. It may be limited by specimen quality, representativeness, depleted specimens, or non-representative tissue types. Precut slides must not be oven baked.

Collection Instructions
Formalin fix (10 percent neutral buffered formalin) and paraffin embed specimen; cells must be prepared into a cellblock. Protect paraffin block and/or slides from excessive heat. Transport tissue block or 5 unstained (3- to 5‑micron thick sections), positively charged slides. If sending precut slides, do not oven bake.
Storage Instructions
Room temperature or refrigerated; ship in cooled container during summer months.
Causes for Rejection
Non‑representative tissue type; depleted specimens.
